Sam White, Founder and Principle Teacher
Despite a sporty youth, I only discovered Pilates in my 30's, when badly executed gym and military-style work outs and a sedentary desk-bound job resulted in neck and shoulder pain. At 40, I'm now stronger than I was in my 20's during my gym-bunny era, thanks to dedicated Pilates practice which influences the way I move and carry myself in everyday life.
In 2011 I enrolled as a Teacher trainee with Body Control Pilates, keen to take my learning to a new level. My early Pilates training re-ignited my undergraduate learning in Physiology and Anatomy (I studied Biochemistry at Uni).
A fully certified Body Control Pilates & REPs Level 3 Matwork and Reformer Teacher, I remain committed to ongoing training and am currently working towards Level 4 Pilates; a goal-oriented qualification which focuses on the science of movement at joint level and how to adapt programs for the needs of one’s client, whether this be an athlete, an office worker, a busy mum or someone with an injury. As a keen runner, rower, cyclist, skier and novice triathlete I have a particular interest in the application and relevance of Pilates in Sport; I recently smashed 9 minutes off my latest Sprint Triathlon time, and credit this achievement to hours spent preparing for a Pilates exam and not to any extra Triathlon training, as time didn't allow for any!
I've attained accreditation as a Level 4 Low Back Pain Specialist Instructor, recognition as a Back4Good® practitioner and a BackCare professional, allowing referrals from local GP’s for patients with Low Back Pain. I run several weekly specialised "Healthy Back" classes for the prevention of back pain. Read more here.
I'm fully insured and hold CPR first aid certification. I'm also a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and the Body Control Pilates Association (BCPA) and am bound by their respective Codes of Practice.
