About Body Control Pilates®

Body Control Pilates® is widely seen as a benchmark for safe and effective teaching of the highest quality. It is Europe’s largest professional Pilates organisation with over 1,400 teaching members. My Local Pilates teachers are all Body Control Pilates certified and associated. In 2005 Body Control Pilates became the first specialist training provider to gain recognition against the UK government-backed national standard for Pilates (known as ‘Level 3’); in early 2010, they were the first training provider to receive approval for a Low Back Pain course accredited against the new Level 4 Standard; in 2013 they received Ofqual approval to become the only accredited 'Level 4 Pilates' training provider in the UK.
The Body Control Pilates Method of teaching offers a comprehensive program of exercises, adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. Read more about Joseph Pilates here. Central to the Method is 'awareness of your own body' and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic "fundamentals":
Relaxation, Concentration, Coordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina , Flowing Movements
Sometimes we talk about the ABC's of Pilates. These stand for Alignment, Breathing and Centring and are taken from the above fundamentals of Pilates. The Pilates Basics classes very much focus on teaching the ABC's to new clients in order for them to progress their practice and achieve Flowing Movement and Stamina (muscular endurance)
The Body Control Pilates Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level! Matwork exercises have a great attraction in that they need no special equipment, and are particularly safe for those with back problems. Book a Pilates class today!
